Our recruitment process

The ins and outs.

Step 1 – Apply

Apply quickly and easily using our online application system. If you’re applying for a permanent or a specialist role, you’ll need to attach a copy of your CV.

We’ll email you when we get your application and we’ll be in touch again within two to six weeks. So please make sure the contact details on your application are correct and that you check your emails regularly. You’ll find tips on applying online in our FAQs section.

Step 2 – Inspire us

If we shortlist your application, the chances are we’ll invite you to an Assessment Centre here at Chessington World of Adventures Resort. We use Assessment Centres to recruit for most of our operational roles, but specialist, management and permanent roles may involve additional stages.

Chessington World of Adventures Resort Assessment Centres

We decide whether or not to offer all of our seasonal and many of our permanent roles to people based on how they perform at Assessment Centres. Our business thrives on communication and interaction, not only between our front-line staff and our guests, but also between departments and individuals. Because the Assessment Centre is so interactive, it gives you the chance to show you have the key skills we look for.

What to expect

Our Assessment Centres are fun, help you relax and give you a great opportunity to show off your strengths and skills.

Our group Seasonal Assessment Centres generally last around three hours and will give you the chance to show your teamwork and communication skills. For certain roles, in areas like First Aid, Warehousing or Cash Office, there may also be a relevant knowledge-based exercise. Whatever the role though, all our Assessment Centres end with an individual interview, which gives you another chance to tell us about your skills.

Our Professional & Management Assessment Centres are a little bit different. For one thing they can last for up to a day, and for another, the tasks are more suited to the individual department. So if you’re looking to join us in Marketing, we might ask you to carry out a presentation, and if you aspire to become one of the Resort’s management team, we may give you a more strategic challenge. Then again, we might get you involved in an exercise to see how well you may embrace The Merlin Way – our company values. It really does depend on the role. As with all our Assessment Centres however, we’ll finish up with an individual interview.

Our advice? Be yourself, relax and enjoy the experience. Above all, get involved.

What to bring

Bring documents that prove you have the right to work in the UK. This applies to everyone, regardless of nationality. If you don’t have these documents with you on the day, we can’t carry on with the recruitment process. You can find out what you need to bring here.

What to wear

Wear clothes that show you’re serious about creating a great impression for our guests. You don’t have to wear a three-piece suit, but leave the jeans, trainers and sportswear at home.

Step 3 – The outcome

We usually phone or email within two weeks of your interview or Assessment Centre to tell you whether or not you’ve got the job.

Administrative, support and professional recruitment

The specific role, its level and the number of applicants all affect whether you go through an interview or an Assessment Centre.

We always try hard to make you feel comfortable so that you’re at your best. But whatever the outcome, we find most people enjoy the day and learn a lot from it.

If you've been to one of our Assessment Centres or events and would like to give us feedback, we’d be delighted to hear from you.
